Nikos Modderfontein ticks all the boxes for an amazing, authentic Greek dining experience with excellent service to match. The impeccable attention to detail from the owners John and Roxana, who meet and greet every customer, and visit every table to ensure this family owned and run restaurant delivers consistently on their promise of a truly Greek experience. You surely will feast on their freshly home-made dishes, and you will leave as part of the family. Having had a full Seafood meal for Greek Orthodox Palm Sunday was even more authentically Greek, as it was filled with Greek families who lingered as long as we did, enjoyed an array of dishes and soaked in the almost island atmosphere. I’ve been eyeing out all the excellent food posts from Nikos and when you see that the customer food posts look the same as the advertising, you must know that this is serious food. And boy, Oh boy!! This was an experience of note. I could write a short novel on this but I’ll be as brief as possible. Starting with the best Spanakopita I’ve ever eaten, with crispy phyllo pastry encapsulating a delicious filling of spinach and feta, you know this journey is going to be póso thavmásio (wonderful)!! Followed by an incredibly fresh Village Greek salad with a delightful chunk of Greek feta cheese, then soft delicious pita bread with 4 of the most wonderful dips – Tarama (fish roe dip), Htipiti (Red pepper, chili and feta dip), Hummus (Chickpea dip) and my favourite – Skordalia (garlic dip with crushed garlic, pureed potatoes and lots of olive oil). Heavenly describes the Skordalia best if you love garlic and velvety potatoes. Getting to mains and sides – the next chapter on this marvellous adventure. Vegetarians will love the delectable Roasted Cauliflower with burnt butter, sage and pine kernels. Even I could go Veg with this spectacular dish. It’s a must try for anyone. We had meaty Mozambican Tiger Giant prawns (seasonal and you must ask if they have it) and the most succulent and flavourful Mozambican King Prawns – accompanied by lemon butter and a special Nikos spicy sauce. Add a whole coal-grilled Kabeljou (fish) that is perfectly grilled and full of flavour, with the most tender, tasty calamari, crispy zucchini fries that stayed crisp through the whole meal, perfect crispy roast potatoes and you have a feast for Neptune!! Seafood never tasted this fresh and tasty. Brilliant food preparation of products sourced by John to be the freshest and the best, excellent plating and fabulous taste all round. Bravo to the peeps in the kitchen. Dessert time - Freshly made traditional Loukoumades (Greek mini doughnuts in syrup and nuts) were just scrumptious as you bite into the hard outside layer and taste the syrupy goodness combined with crunchy nuts. The Pavlova, with its layers of meringue, whipped cream, berry coulis and mixed berries, sprinkled with Turkish delight and castor sugar was just sublime. I’m having a whole one next time.  Finally two cups of double Greek coffee and lunch was done …. no need for dinner after such a fiesta. - Vis Naidoo | 27 April 2021
